Making It Happen In the Age of Information Overload

Oct 8, 2012

Last Friday I had the great privilege of being a guest on Coach Mike Brenhaug’s radio talk show, Fast Biz Growth Radio. Brenhaug’s channel gives industry experts a platform to share valuable insights that help companies grow.

Society today is increasingly on the go, constantly craving information on demand. Luckily for us, technology is evolving at such a rapid pace that this is now possible.

I was brought on the show to discuss how technology has changed the way you market and brand your company as well as strategies to increase brand awareness and align yourselves with your ideal client.

The largest barrier to achieving success in this new environment of instant information is the amount of information thrown at us at any given time. I recently read that 290 billion emails are sent out everyday, 90% of which are relegated to the spam folder or never opened. In order to be included in the 10% of information that is consumed, we must effectively target our audience.

Thanks to tools such as Radian 6 and Sprout Social, we can now measure social engagement. We can use these tools to identify who the key decision makers are in target companies. Obtaining this information helps us to be able to present these individuals with proper information that will enable them to make meaningful decisions.  We can also use these tools to measure how many impressions and conversions sites are getting. An impression is how many individuals have viewed a site or opened an email and a conversion is how many people are engaging with this information through likes, retweets, ect. In social marketing, it’s not about selling, it’s about engaging. The more people who see your content, the better chance you have of someone interacting with that content.
